e.l.f. {Hydrating Bubble Mask} Review

elf cosmetics, elf, bubble maskI had several friends who recommended the e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask so I had to try it out for myself! Honestly, I am new to the e.l.f. community so I haven’t tried a lot of their products. I started with some of their makeup products first and was not disappointed. Now I can officially say the same about my first try with e.l.f. skin care.

Let me start by saying that e.l.f. focuses on being 100% vegan and cruelty free! As a lover of all animals I am especially grateful that they choose to not test their products on them. So that right there automatically made me want to try out their products.

The e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask is good for any skin type, so it doesn’t matter if you have acne or wrinkles, you can use this product. And yes, if you have oily/acne skin it is still important to hydrate your skin! This mask is supposed to clean the dirt out of your pores and leave your skin hydrated, clean, and glowing. Did it do what it says it is supposed to do? Yes, for me it did. I noticed a brightness to my skin once I removed the mask and I loved how it made my skin feel.

It goes on your skin as a gel, and when it bubbles and foams you know it’s done! Personally, I left it on another 8 minutes after it finished foaming just to let it do as much for my skin as it could. I’d recommend you do the same, as long as you have enough time. You won’t be disappointed! The e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask retails for only $14.00, which is a very reasonable price for any skin care product.

e.l.f. Mascara **Bonus**

A friend of mine just tried her first e.l.f. mascara and showed me her before and after pictures- you won’t believe how good it looks! She purchased the e.l.f. Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara for $3 and I’d say it was well worth the money! I will be trying their mascara next, for sure!

{OOTD 8-9-17} Target Beauty Haul!

It’s super easy to walk into Target and leave with tons of stuff you didn’t need, and today I was one of those people. The good news is that I didn’t have to spend very much! NYX cosmetics was having a BUY 1 GET 1 half off deal on their lip colors, so I picked out a few that I will get to use a lot this fall.

nyx, soft matte lip cream

I’m always a sucker for masks, and today I got one that I am so stoked to use! It’s e.l.f. cosmetics Hydrating Bubble Mask! (Review to come later.) My skin has been all over the place lately, which I blame on hormones, and I’ve needed extra hydration. I’ve heard good things from friends about this mask, so I am excited to see if it lives up to it’s hype.

For those of you loving my “I Coffee So Hard” shirt, you can find it here! It’s a great go-to shirt for shopping and running errands because it is SO comfortable and soft. (Currently out of stock in size medium, which is the size of this one.) It’s cute on its own, but some days I like to add a little more to it and tie a shirt around my waist and wear a hat.

These black jeans are from Target, and are pretty slimming. They aren’t true to size, though, so make sure you get a size up. I like to roll up the bottom a few times during the summertime.

I am in love with these black TOMS because they go with basically anything. They’re simple and casual. Comfortable and easy to wear. I have TOMS in several other colors, but don’t wear them near as much as my black ones.

<<Hurry out to Target to catch the NYX sale, and stock up on lots of fall makeup!>>

e.l.f. Blush Review

About a week ago I purchased my first e.l.f. blush, just wanting to see how it would hold up against the more expensive blushes like Benefit’s Coralista (a personal fave). I have used it every day since I bought it so I could get a real opinion on it. I changed nothing about my normal routine- no new moisturizers, same foundation, etc. I didn’t want anything to mess with my opinion on it.

e.l.f. Blush vs. Other Blushes

I’ve concluded that the only main difference between e.l.f. and other brands is that e.l.f. rubs off a little easier. It goes on well, and the pigment is good with a few coats. It seemed to stay on a little better throughout the day when I wet my brush before applying it.

(Get full makeup details here.)

Some of the more expensive blushes don’t rub off so easily, which I assume is why they cost more. They are also more pigmented with just one application, but personally it didn’t bother me to put on more than one coat. One downfall of e.l.f. is that there aren’t many color choices (only 3), so only certain skin tones can pull it off.

Do I recommend it?

Definitely worth a try! I mean, it’s only $2.00 so if you don’t like it it isn’t the end of the world. I really like the color (Shy) so I’ll continue to wear it. I really want to try the other colors out as well.

Let me know if you’ve tried it in the comments!

Yesterday was one day that I actually managed to get into an outfit other than yoga pants and a t-shirt, had my hair done, AND makeup done! All on the same day! This doesn’t happen very often, so I had to document it.

VIB Bridal Edition

I asked several women who were recently married or in a wedding party what beauty item they ABSOLUTELY couldn’t live without for the ceremony and they had some great answers! Some of which I never would have thought of! So if you’re set to be married soon, grab a pen; You’ll want to jot these down.

Here’s the list of top 5 VIB for brides from brides:

1. False strip lashes. If you don’t have naturally thick and long eyelashes then strip lashes really make your eyes pop in pictures! Several women recommended Lilly Lashes saying they’re so beautiful and last forever. Meaning you can reuse them over and over.

2. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35. “Formulated with emollients and optical pearl pigments, Camera Ready BB Cream gives skin a glowing, ethereal look and provides a hydrating veil for the complexion to maintain moisture on the surface of the skin while controlling shine—without leaving behind a chalky finish.” –Sephora websiteThere were several ladies who mentioned this BB cream, which makes me want to try it, too! All 3 women said that this was very lightweight and they didn’t feel like they had a ton of makeup on.

Photo Jul 30, 8 05 07 PM (1)

3. Dermaplaning. It isn’t exactly a beauty ITEM, but several women said they recommended that above everything else! They noted that it left their skin super smooth which helped their makeup go on evenly. If you haven’t heard of dermaplaning before,  it’s a method of exfoliation that uses a 10 gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, brighter complexion. In that process it also removes peach fuzz and hair from the face, so do this within a few days of your wedding day!

4. Eye cream. One bride swears that Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm took away the puffiness after just a few uses before her wedding day. It contains caffeine, green tea extracts, cucumber, vitamin c, and aloe which all work to sooth puffiness and speed up circulation under the eyes to reduce dark circles.

5. Teeth whitener. This is one that I wouldn’t have thought to include on my list if not for several brides mentioning it! One bride used the BrightWhite Smile Teeth Whitening Light, while the others used Crest Whitestrips. The ladies that used the Crest Whitestrips reported a really noticeable difference after just one week of use. The bride that used the BrightWhite Smile Light said she loved it because there were no bad tasting strips, and no teeth sensitivity.

Hopefully I helped a bride or two prepare a little more for the big day! One thing that isn’t an actual item but I think is important, is to smile! Don’t stress out too much and try to enjoy your special day. All a bride really needs is a smile to make her beautiful!

Let’s Talk Moisturizer.

Finding a moisturizer you like can be one of the hardest things! Everyone is so different in their preferences. If you try one because you like the way it feels, it may not even be focusing on the issues you want. Or if you find one specifically for your acne breakouts, you may hate the way it feels on your skin. So what IS the best way to find a moisturizer that you’re going to like?

Decide What’s Important

The first thing you should consider before buying a moisturizer is deciding what is most important to you. Do you want one that makes your skin feel soft? Do you need one for your clogged pores and not care at all how it feels as long as it works? Decide what your top focus is and start there. Obviously if you hate the way thick creams feel on your skin, avoid looking at the thick creams even if it says it’s for your skin type.

There will be something out there for everyone, and you will find products that fit your needs. You just have to do a little research. So that means not just grabbing one and saying, “I’ll try this one” but instead reading several different bottles, from several different brands. If you’re not sure, you can always ask someone for help. I know that the ladies working at Sephora know their products and will take the time to find what’s right for you.

If You’re Going By Skin Type

If focusing on skin issues is top priority, then look for skin care lines that have a line specifically aimed at you.

Moisturizers for dry skin typically are richer and thicker creams.

Moisturizers for oily skin typically are light and more watery.

Moisturizers for aging skin lean more towards the dry skin category, but will use specific ingredients to help fight the aging process. Things like vitamin C, vitamin E, retinols, and alpha-hydroxy acids.

Moisturizers for acne prone skin lean more towards the oily skin category, but will use specific ingredients to help kill trapped bacteria and sooth redness. Things like alpha-hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, and tea tree oil.

If You’re Going By Feeling

If you have pretty normal skin and just want to find one that feels good, then look at verbiage on the bottle. It will usually have a description on the bottle somewhere telling you about the product. Look for key words like cream, lotion, rich, sensitive skin, etc. to help you decide which one sounds like your preference. A lot of places will have testers out, so get a small amount out and try it on the back of your hand. That will give you a good idea if it’s one you’d like or not like.

Finding the right brand for you can also be an important factor. Every brand is different, so don’t just stick to ones you have used before. Skin care is always evolving so don’t be afraid to try something new. Who knows, you may just find a new favorite!

Girls Night Out {Makeup and Outfit Details}

With two young kids I don’t get to enjoy as many girls nights as I used to. So when my sweet husband offered to keep the kids so I could go spend some much needed time with one of my good friends, I immediately jumped on that. It was a nice evening filled with lots of chatting, shopping and eating. So basically, all of the things that I like best.

We ended up at Ulta (I know, shocking right?) and I tried on about 20 different lip colors! Okay, maybe not 20, more like 6, but I wanted to try on every one that I picked up. I think I see an Ulta makeup haul post in the near future!

Then we had to hit up our fave, Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom Rack had some new fall things out and I’ll be heading back very soon to stock up for fall! I’m not pregnant this year so I’ll actually get to wear all of the cute things that I want this fall. I. CAN’T. WAIT!!!

**Speaking of Nordstrom, I’ll be hitting up the sale this weekend and I’ll post all of the things I buy later this weekend to share with you all!**

Relaxing At-Home Spa Pedicure

It can be hard to find time to make it to the salon every month for a pedicure. Especially as a mother, time gets away from me. I can’t imagine what my feet would look like if I didn’t sneak in my own at-home pedicure between professional treatments! It doesn’t take 30 minutes, and I don’t have to waste time driving there.

The important part to making your at-home pedicure relaxing is making sure you have the right products ahead of time. That way when you find yourself thinking “I actually have a few minutes to myself!” you can jump right in.

What You Need

  • Nail polish of choice
  • Nail file
  • Foot cream or body lotion
  • Cuticle cream
  • Foot scrub
  • A bathtub or sink to soak your feet in

6 Easy Steps

1.Start by soaking your feet in your bathtub or sink for at least 5 minutes.

2. Scrub your feet for at least one minute a piece, focusing on the areas that feel dry or have calluses. Put them back in the water to wash the scrub off. Dry them off on a soft towel.

3. File your toenails into the shape that you like (I prefer squared nails).

4. Massage your cuticle cream into the top of the nail base (a little goes a long way). I love the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream.

5. Massage your feet with your foot cream, for at least 5 minutes per foot. Be generous with the amount that you start with, because it will start to soak into your skin. Use a cream with an aroma that you enjoy to help relax you. I love lavender, so I use Acure Calming body lotion.

6. Paint your nails with your polish of choice. Do as many coats as it requires.

Voila! You just gave yourself a shorter version of a professional pedicure without ever leaving your home. This should get you through to your next professional pedicure, because we all deserve to have someone else give us one every once in awhile.

Beating Acne

Dealing with acne is such a frustrating thing that pretty much everyone deals with at one point in their lives. Acne appears for many reasons: hormonal changes, environmental changes, overactive oil glands, dirt getting trapped within the pores. Getting rid of it can be as simple for some as finding the right products, and for others it can be a lifelong battle to get it under control. Whether you’re a teenager or an adult, there are some things that you can try that will help make a difference.

Salicylic Acid

For anyone with a milder case of acne, try using some products containing salicylic acid. It’s an anti-inflammatory and an anti-bacterial, so it helps kill any trapped bacteria and helps bring redness down. It’s important to note that it does not help with overactive sebum production! It’s main responsibility is to clear out the pores, being a mild exfoliant. You could try one product containing salicylic, but it works best when used together as an entire line. Think of it like this- a whole skin care line= 100%, so using only one product from a skin care line= only 25%. You get more benefits from it if you use it in more than one product.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is an antiseptic, so it will kill trapped bacteria and will prevent it from growing. It’s something that works more as a preventative measure than as a spot treatment. There are lots of cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide, so make sure the one you choose contains at least a 2.0%.

Copper PCA

Copper PCA’s main focus is oil and shine control. It also helps stimulate the skin’s regenerative processes which repair the outer protective barrier. I’ve used this in form of an astringent. I recommend Clinical Care Solutions ToneZit  toner. It comes in a spray bottle, and you spritz it on the skin after cleansing and before moisturizing. It makes a major difference in how oily my skin gets throughout the day.

clinical care solutions, toner, acne

Products containing retinoids work because they unclog your pores and prevent dead cells from reclogging your skin. They’re an exfoliant, so they also smooth out the surface of the skin and help with acne scarring.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint essential oil can be very beneficial for someone with acne. It has a cooling effect on the skin and it also inhibits bacterial growth. With antibacterial properties, it works to kill the bad bacteria that buries itself in your pores. Use it as a spot treatment, or use a few drops with your light moisturizer at night.

peppermint essential oil

While there are products that you can try to help beat those breakouts don’t be discouraged if nothing seems to be working for you. You just have to keep trying different things and eventually you will find the product that works for you. Everyone’s skin is very different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Stay diligent in washing your face daily. One day soon you’ll find the right skin care regime for you.
