One Pair of Jeans, Five Outfits!

If you follow me on social media then you saw a few days ago that I scored some jeans from Gap for only $9! They’re super cute and have several places of patchwork on them that I LOVE. The thing is, I immediately thought I could only wear them with with certain types of shoes and shirts, based on the way other bloggers wear theirs. But that’s silly, because I don’t have to dress like other bloggers. I can pair them with whatever I like and already have in my closet. There’s really no need for me to go out and buy certain sweaters to wear with them just to be like everyone else. (Although I am always down to buy new sweaters…I just mean I don’t HAVE to!)

Here they are. My new favorite jeans.

gap jeans, nordstrom, relax, ankle boots, fall

$9! I still can’t get over that part.

So since I am a busy mother of two, also working part-time, training for a half-marathon and running a blog, I don’t have a ton of time to shop. I wish I did, but I don’t! I went through my closet and found 5 outfits that I put together using this one pair of jeans. I found that these jeans can be super versatile and are not just meant for over-sized sweaters!

{Outfit 1}

gap jeans, gap, boots, fall

Paired them with wedged boots and a flowy jersey top. I can add a hat or a necklace to add a little more to the outfit if I want.

{Outfit 2}

Paired them with black ankle booties and a leather jacket. I could add a scarf to this look on colder days.

{Outfit 3}

Paired with this adorable Trendy Bubs Mama shirt and some casual sneakers. This is more of my every day wear so this will probably be mostly how I wear these pants the most!

{Outfit 4}

Photo Sep 28, 12 04 23 PM

This is the outfit that I got the most questions about! Sweatshirt is from Nordstrom and says “relax”, and these ankle booties are from Old Navy. I love this look because it looks cute but it’s also really comfortable. This sweatshirt is one of my favorites right now.

{Outfit 5}

Photo Sep 28, 1 09 16 PM

I paired them with black Steve Madden ankle booties and a black and white plaid from Old Navy. I’ll probably wear this on an evening out, with a dark colored lip. I am a pretty casual styled girl, but this can be dressed up a little when I want/need to!

I shared this with you so you know that you don’t HAVE to go out and buy certain types of clothes to go with the new shoes you just bought. There are always outfits in your closet, just waiting for you to put them together! I bet there are plenty of cute tops hanging in there just waiting to be worn this season.

You’ll Fall {In Love} With This Eyeliner

I will be the first to admit that I’m a little obsessed with makeup. I want to try it all! Mascaras, blushes, highlighters, lip colors.  Lately I’ve been searching for an easy-to-use eyeliner that stays all day and doesn’t smudge. Sounds simple enough, right? Actually I tried 3 different ones before finding the love of my makeup life.

Photo Sep 25, 10 28 11 AM

*************************************************************************************

B+

First I tried Kat Von D Ink Liner ($20 at Sephora) and it was great. Stayed all day and definitely didn’t smudge. The only thing about it was that the tip was a little thick, so even when I wanted a very thin, subtle line it looked thick. It took a lot of practice to be able to perfect applying it. I give it a B+.

Photo Sep 25, 11 31 14 AM

(Top line is Kat Von D liner and bottom line is STILA liner.)

*************************************************************************************

C+

Next I tried Sephora Collection Classic Line 24 HR Felt Eyeliner ($14 at Sephora) and it was quite difficult to use. The tip was thin like I wanted, but the liquid liner came out too runny and too fast. It became messy and then the cleanup wasn’t worth the time. When I could apply it appropriately, it did stay all day and I really liked it. But those days were few and far between. I give it a C+.

*************************************************************************************

A++

So my new absolute FAVE eyeliner is STILA Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner ($22 at Ulta)! I am in love with this and after trying it YOU WILL BE TOO! It’s perfect. Being rated Ulta’s Fan Fave, I decided to try it out. It didn’t take long at all to apply a beautiful thin line, complete with the perfect wing. It wasn’t too runny or watery, and it lasted all day long! I love that I can use it for a subtle liner during the day or a dark thick liner when I want a more dramatic look! If you haven’t tried it yet, get it when you’re needing a new liner next. It does not disappoint! I give it an A++.

What’s an eyeliner that you can’t live without? I’m always willing to try new things! Leave it in the comments!

A Definite Way To Get Rid Of Dark Spots

Some people get them, some don’t. If you are one of the unlucky ones that have dark spots then you understand just how hard it is to get rid of them. They’re usually not very noticeable to anyone but yourself, but finding a way to fix the discoloration will make you feel so much better about your skin. Plus you won’t be wasting a ton of money on concealer anymore!

What Causes Dark Spots

Well, there are two types of dark spots: ones that appear from sun damage and ones that appear from the overproduction of melanin, thanks to the hormone progesterone.

Too much sun on unprotected skin will eventually cause the damage to become noticeable on the top layer of skin.

Hormones are always messing with our skin, causing breakouts and clogged pores, but too much progesterone in our bodies can cause an overproduction of melanin causing an uneven skin tone.

Both types of hyperpigmentation can appear to look the same and take form as large or small discoloration spots on your face, neck or decollete.

Definite Way To Fix Them

First and foremost I want to say that it will take weeks to completely fade these spots. There is no miracle product or treatment that will erase them after one use! It will take time and patience, but if you follow these guidelines you can have your beautiful, even skin back. (Trust me, I am JUST NOW getting rid of mine, and it works.)

Mary Kay Lash Intensity mascara

  1. Protect your skin every. single. day. Wear a light sunscreen under your makeup, even if your foundation contains an spf. You won’t make much progress if you aren’t blocking out harmful rays.
  2. Use the appropriate skin care. You can find entire skin care lines that focus entirely on evening out skin tone, and brightening the complexion. USE THEM. It will only help your skin heal faster. I recommend SkinCeuticals. It’s what I use, and they have specific products that have great reviews and are for pigmentation issues.
  3. Use a Retinoid. It is the fastest proven way to get rid of discoloration. You can get a prescription from your dermatologist if you want the strong stuff. Retin-A is a powerful form of vitamin A, that is known to speed up cell turnover. When you’re doing that you’re not only renewing the top layer of skin to remove dark spots, but you’re boosting collagen production as well! You can use it on your fine lines and wrinkles, too! Bonus!
  4. Don’t stop caring for your skin. It’s easy to say, “Okay, they’ve all disappeared!” and think that that means you can go back to using your bar of soap for a cleanser and not using moisturizer anymore. No. You have to continue a daily skin care regimen to maintain the healthy skin that you’ve established. You don’t have to continue using the Retinoid, but you should continue to use the skin care. Otherwise you’ll notice those spots returning and all of that time and money will have been wasted.

It also doesn’t hurt to get regular facials from a licensed esthetician. She will be able to help direct you to certain treatments to speed up the dark spot removal process.

5 Simple {Fall} Looks

I know we haven’t officially entered into fall yet, but it’s my favorite time of year and I have already begun the transition into fall clothing. I just recently wrote a post on some must-have fall staples, so I thought I’d follow up with a few outfit ideas involving several of those fall staples.

Outfit 1

Photo Aug 24, 3 48 52 PM

This look is super easy to create. Skinny jeans are pretty much the only thing I’ll wear because they make me look taller and smaller. All you need to create an easy fall look is a 3/4 sleeve neutral colored shirt to pair with your favorite jeans, and finish with ankle boots. Very easy, and doesn’t look like you just quickly threw something together. Add a scarf to this look and it will dress it up a little.

Shop this look: Shirt (Exact one is from last year, but this one is perfect.), Jeans, Boots

Picking a shirt that has something different about it can make a simple outfit look like you put more thought into it than you really did. I love how comfortable this shirt is. It is a little thicker, so it feels more like a sweatshirt. Perfect for cool fall nights! Paired with skinny jeans (obviously), and ankle boots.

Shop this look: Shirt, Jeans, Boots.

Outfit 3

Photo Sep 15, 4 17 50 PMPlain long sleeve shirts are my thing. I love that you can dress them up or keep them casual. This one also happens to be from the A-New-Day brand from Target, which seems to be a new favorite of mine. Grab a scarf for cooler days, and pair with your favorite jeans and boots or flats!

Plaid! Plaid is THE perfect fall style. It’s my personal favorite of all fall attire. Wear it on it’s own or wear it over a tee. You simply can’t go wrong. I love that Old Navy has lots of different colors and styles of plaid shirts this season so I can go stock up for cheap! Pair your plaid with laid back jeans and sneakers, or dress it up with jeans and some boots. It is perfect for cool Autumn weather.

Shop this look: Shirt, Jeans, Shoes (similar style).

Sweater season! Fall wouldn’t be fall without sweaters and hoodies! I am so in love with this sweater that I found at the end of the season last year. It fit me while I was pregnant last year, and since it’s an open front I’ll be able to continue to wear it this year. It couldn’t be any cozier and comfortable. Paired with jeans and boots but could easily be worn with dress pants and heels for a fall work look as well!

Shop this look: Shirt (similar style), Jeans, Boots.

OOTD + {Anniversary Giveaway}

I am so in love with casual shirts that can be dressed up, and this a+new+day shirt from Target is perfect for that! It is flowy and can be tucked into the front of your jeans or just worn without tucking. Today I paired it with my skinny American Eagle jeans and black Steve Madden ankle boots, which are a classic favorite of mine! Also a go-to fall staple! (Read  my list of must-have fall staples on this previous post.)

A+New+Day is a brand new Target brand and so far I am super impressed! They have the cutest clothes at amazing prices! If you haven’t seen their clothes yet, go check their website RIGHT NOW. This shirt comes in 2 other colors and is only $20!

{One Year} For Brown Eyed and Blushing

Exactly one year ago I started building my website and getting things all prepared to launch my brand new Beauty, Life, and Style Blog- Brown Eyed and Blushing. I cannot believe it’s been a year already, with so many big things happening to me since the beginning. I had my second child, switched job locations and hours, celebrated my 5 year wedding anniversary, celebrated my daughter turning three, and have made many great connections with other bloggers and companies. It has been harder than I imagined it would be, but it’s also very rewarding. Everyone needs a creative output to stay sane, and this has been mine.

I spent the morning looking back at all of my posts from the year and thought I’d reflect back on the three most popular ones.

Achieving Your {Ideal} Brows

brow tips, brows, beauty tips, ideal brows, how to get good brows

This was my first ever blog post and is still the most popular one to this day! In this post I give pointers on how to get the eyebrow shape that you desire. I show you some guidelines to follow, showing you where the brows should start, arch, and end. And then I talk about the correct way to use a brow pencil when touching them up. For it being the first post that I ever wrote, it was a pretty good one! I have grown a little in my writing since then, but overall it was one of my personal favorites!

My Top 5 Beauty {Must Haves} of 2016

strivectin, stretch marks, wrinkles, skin care, beauty, lotion, moisturizer, retinoid, retinol, skin, face

The name pretty much speaks for itself, but in the post I go over my favorite products that I used in 2016. It’s kind of random, which I like. I don’t like things to be too predictable. There’s a few skin care products on the list, a few hair products, and even some hand soaps. I use all of those products still to this day and I would still recommend all of them to you!

Clear Proof Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask Review

kiehl's clay masque, kiehl's deep pore cleansing masque, skin care, mask

This was one of the first product reviews that I did, and I still feel the same way about this product as I did when I wrote it. I really enjoyed the benefits that my skin saw from using this product, and I still think it’s my favorite charcoal mask that I’ve used to this day. I go into more detail on the original post, like ingredients, full list of benefits, and where you can buy it. Since this post did so well it made me excited to start reviewing more of the products that I’m using regularly. So look forward to more posts like it!

My Personal Favorite

From the 60 posts that came from my first year of blogging I’d have to say that my personal favorite is the birth story of my son, Ellis. It’s called The Road To Childbirth {Literally}. It is the longest one I’ve written, and it’s filled with all of the exciting details of the craziest night of my life! And what mother doesn’t love looking back at her birth stories? I loved writing about it, and I got some great responses from other mothers about it.

I have really enjoyed blogging, and I hope to grow even more in the next year! Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this adventure and kept up with my blog!  I want to hear what you all would like to read more of! Any and all suggestions welcome! Fall Staples You {Need} To Have In Your Life

Welcome to September, one of my favorite months! The month the pumpkin spice latte makes its return, the month it’s actually cool enough to wear your light scarves and a light jacket at night.

I have been anxiously waiting for summer to end and that happens THIS. MONTH! (Insert heart eye emojis here.) Although it’s still a bit warm during the days here in Oklahoma I’m going to go ahead and pull out my fall staples. Everyone needs a few fall staples to fall back on every year. Some that are classic and will never go out of style, and some that are new to go with the trends. It can be clothes, it can be skin care (skin needs change with the seasons), or it can be makeup. I’m going to share with you a few of my fall staples, and a few things you will need for fall this year.

My Fall Staples

My favorite fall staple has to be boots. It doesn’t have to be one specific pair, it can be many, many pairs of boots. Knee high boots, ankle booties, or anywhere in-between. My faves this year are these that I just got from Old Navy, and they come in 5 color choices!

ankle boots, old navy

A favorite sweatshirt or hoodie is also important to me. I love cooler fall nights, so I have to have a sweatshirt or hoodie that I can sit out on my patio and enjoy my fire pit in. It’s always comfortable no matter the style or design. Comfort is the important factor for me.

I have to change my cleanser, serum and moisturizer when cooler weather hits because my skin goes from combination skin to dry skin. Usually this is the case for everyone. Weather can completely change your skin, so always think about that when the seasons are changing and you’re at Sephora looking for a new moisturizer. This year I am going to use my Air Repair Cleansing Milk (seriously, you have to try this stuff!!!), Ole Henricksen Vitamin C serum, and I’ll start with Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion and see how my skin reacts. Sometimes I need to change my moisturizer several times before finding the right combo.

air repair, cleanser, air repair cleansing milk

Several different warm toned lip colors will be in my purse starting this month. Fall makeup tones have to be my absolute favorite of any season! Dark reds, browns, caramels, dark oranges, sounds perfect doesn’t it? I have already found several that I am in love with and have started to wear already. This NYX  shade: Budapest one is life!

fall staples, aveda, nyx, nordstrom, old navy, air repair

What You Need This Fall

Keep up with this year’s fall trends by getting yourself a pair of ankle booties. Peep toed ankle boots are a big thing this year, but closed toed will last you through winter.

A few warm toned lip colors and a fall eye shadow palette. Like I said above, dark reds, caramels, browns, and dark oranges will go along with a lot of the clothes designed for fall style.

Check your skin care routine. If your skin seems to be acting different you will need to switch your products.

A light scarf. Nothing too heavy, but a light scarf is not only cute, but it can keep you warm on those evenings spent sipping wine on the patio of your favorite restaurant.

What Is Your Favorite Fall Staple?

Is there something I’m missing that you can’t live without? Leave it in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.

{Mascara} The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

So, I’m a sucker for mascaras. I’ll try them all. Cheap, expensive, waterproof, fiber. I’m a girl that doesn’t have to have eyeliner or foundation on when I leave the house, but I always have my mascara. These past 6 months I have tried 5 different mascaras and found that some of them are worth the money, and some of them not so much. One of them I even hated so much that I used it twice and ended up throwing it away. It was really that bad.

So here you have it…The good, The bad, and The ugly of Mascaras.

Let’s start with one of the “goods”, which has always been a personal favorite of mine.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

This one is an expert at curling and lengthening the lashes, which has a lot to do with the hook n’ roll brush. The curved brush tip works wonders when it comes to curling and separating. Add two coats of it and you’re adding lots of length to your lashes as well. Out of all of the mascaras I’ve tried these past several months this one definitely looks and feels the most natural. My lashes don’t feel weighed down, and they’re soft to the touch. It washes off easily with your cleanser, which is nice because it doesn’t require an eye makeup remover like some of the other mascaras.

Retails for $24.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Another “good” one is the classic beauty blogger fave, Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. I’ve heard bloggers talking about this one for a very long time, and this technically wasn’t my first time to try it. I have to say it isn’t my absolute favorite, but I see what the hype is about. It adds a lot of thickness to the lashes, which is nice for someone like me with very thin natural lashes. What I don’t like about it is that you have to be careful applying it or it will clump up quite a bit. It seems to take me longer to apply, so I only use it sometimes. It doesn’t wash off super easily with just your cleanser, so you have to use an eye makeup remover when taking it off.

Retails for $23.

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes

When I first started using this mascara I had very mixed feelings about it. I kept seeing pictures of people who had used it and their lashes looked pretty awesome, and mine just seemed to look ugly. I kept using it, though, and I’m glad that I stuck it out because it works pretty awesome when you figure out how to use it properly! It’s a little tricky at first. There’s a transplant mascara that you apply OVER a different mascara (I used Roller Lash as my base), then you apply the fibers, and then REAPPLY the transplant mascara over the fibers. See? Tricky. But I really like the way it lengthens and thickens my lashes. It gives lashes the look of false strip lashes without fussing with the glue and application. This does not come off with your cleanser, so eye makeup remover is required for removal.

Retails for $29.

Finished look of the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes

Wondering which mascara is the “bad” one? It’s seriously the worst mascara I’ve ever tried….it’s

Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara

Revlon claims that it’s going to lengthen, add volume and definition, lift, and add intense color. It literally did none of these things for me. This drug store mascara is only $6 but I wouldn’t waste my money on it again. I used it twice and then threw it away because it wasn’t even good enough to just finish the tube and move on. I definitely think there are way better mascaras that are priced about the same as the Revlon All-In-One. Don’t even waste your time or efforts on this one.

Retails for $6.

Finished look of the Revlon All-In-One Mascara.

Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara

My cousin is a Mary Kay Consultant and sent me a sample of the Lash Intensity Mascara a few months ago, and let me tell you, it quickly rose to the top of my favorite mascara list! It’s amazing! My lashes look so full, long, and dark all while staying very smooth and natural feeling. I am starting to really love Mary Kay products! Not very long ago I tried a charcoal mask from Mary Kay and was so impressed! (You can find my review here.) The mascara is easy to apply because it looks good even with just one coat.  If you want to check it out or have questions about the product, contact my girl Audrey Parnell. It’s definitely worth the money, in my opinion. I think I’ve found my new go-to mascara!

Retails for $18.

I just got these super cute ankle boots from Old Navy this week! They have them in 4 other colors, and they’re surprisingly comfortable.

This tank is an old one I got several years ago from Forever 21 (back when I was actually young enough to shop there), and it has a really cute bow in the back!

I am newly obsessed with Gap jeans. I have several dark wash pairs that I wear all of the time! They’re so slimming and flattering. You can’t go wrong with Gap!

And last but not least, my awesome Kate Spade bag that I found a few weeks ago in the top of my closet that I forgot I had. I said in a previous blog post that I’d be wearing it for months to come, and that still stands. It’s small enough, can carry enough, and not to mention really adorable.

{Air Repair} Skincare Full Review

I will start by saying that lately my skin has been all over the place and it’s been hard trying to find the right balance to keep my skin hydrated without clogging my pores. The past few weeks I’ve been using everything in the Air Repair Skincare Grab & Glow Kit. I wanted to use it for a few weeks before writing my review so I could get a real sense of how the products work. The entire Air Repair Skincare line is made vegan, cruelty free, and gluten-free.

air repair skin care, skincare, skin care, air repair, skin, travel

Inflam-aging skin

“Everyday the skin is bombarded with harsh environmental factors that trigger inflammatory mediators- the same molecules that act locally at the site of an infection but can over react in this situation, causing dryness, dehydration and irritation.  The extract blends specific to Air Repair Skincare are designed to block this pathway and help heal the skin immediately, along with other active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Heat Shock Proteins to deliver visible results. Irritating preservatives such as Parabens and Mineral Oil, which are still used in many beauty brands today, lead to pre-mature aging of the skin as well. All the Air Repair Skincare products are free of Parabens, and Mineral Oil.” – Air Repair

Soothing Facial Cleansing Milk

I cannot get enough of this cleanser! I love it so much that I’m going to say it again. I cannot get enough of this cleanser! It’s probably the best cleanser that I’ve ever used. It leaves my skin soft and hydrated with no flakiness. It’s made with aloe vera, arnica extract, chamomile extract, and rosehip and borage oil, which help to soothe, reduce infammation, and rejuvinate stressed skin. You’d think with it being a milky cleanser that it would only be good for dry skin but that isn’t true! It can be used on any skin type because of the antibacterial and antiseptic properties. That means anyone with acne prone skin doesn’t have to worry about it clogging their pores and making them break out. It actually helps reduce the redness and swelling of pimples, while killing trapped bacteria to help clear the pores. I will never use a different cleanser again! Do yourself a favor and get some of this right now.

Complexion-Quenching Facial Mist

air repair skincare, skin care, skin, air repair

I love toners that you mist on the face because they are super refreshing and you can use them as many times a day as you feel you need. They are an excellent way to balance the pH of the skin and leave it soothed and hydrated. I have carried this facial mist around with me in my bag and I use it several times a day, even if I’m wearing makeup. It doesn’t take my makeup off, it actually works more like a setting spray. Definitely a new summer staple.

Super Hydrating Eye Cream

I have been using this eye cream at night, but you can use it morning and night. It’s goal is to de-puff, re-hydrate, diminish the appearance of dark circles, and reduce fine lines and signs of aging. I’ve been watching the little crows feet around my eyes to see if I can tell a difference and I can’t yet, but it HAS only been a few weeks. Normal eye creams can take up to 4-8 weeks before seeing results. It HAS, however, helped brighten my eye area. I have a 3 year old girl and a 5 month old baby boy- there is rarely a day that I don’t have dark circles. After using this eye cream I haven’t noticed my dark circles like I used to. I don’t fight to cover them up with concealer every day. I’m enjoying this eye cream so far, and am excited to see if it helps diminish my crows feet as well!

Maximum Moisture Lip Quencher Plump and Repair Lip Treatment

Photo Aug 12, 12 16 55 PM

I have enjoyed using this so far, and I’m very picky about my lip cosmetics. This works like a tinted moisturizer but for your lips. Normally when I wear lip colors I have to wear a layer of Burt’s Bees under it to make my lips feel moisturized, but I don’t have to do that with this lip treatment. I feel like my lips are hydrated enough without it, and I like that I can do a thin layer for a light tint, or a thicker layer for bolder color. I’m happy that I have another lip tint that I can carry around in my bag without having to worry if I also have my Burt’s Bees. As for making my lips look plumper, I haven’t noticed a major difference. I do have pretty small lips, though, so I don’t think anything will ever really change that for me.

Complexion Boosting Moisturizer

This is a moisturizer good for all skin types, and focuses on hydrating and diminishing the appearance of wrinkles. I like that a little bit goes a long way with this cream. I have used it day and night, and I have noticed that if you use too much there is a little bit of a shine. So make sure you use a pea sized amount and massage it into your skin to make sure it soaks in deep and doesn’t sit on the surface. This moisturizer has drastically improved the flakiness that’s usually around my nose and I like the way it leaves my skin feeling. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Rescue Balm All-Purpose Skin Salve

This is an interesting product, for sure. They call it “the Swiss army knife of beauty products” because it is an all-purpose skin salve, you can use it on any part of the body needing instant moisture. Face, cuticles, lips, elbows, you name it and it will do the job! I used this on my hands and feet several nights in a row and it made a significant difference on my feet. They’re so smooth, it feels like I just got a pedicure! My hands are constantly being washed (two kids require lots of hand washing) and I haven’t noticed them getting very dry or cracked lately. I’m interested to see how this product continues to work for me, and will update you later if I find any other unique uses for it!
